NAMI ELKGROVE/SCHAUMBURG is a part of an extended network working at the local, state and national levels. Composed of all volunteers; it promotes support, public education, quality care for independent living, adequate health insurance and increased services for research to end the stigma and discrimination against mental illness.

Promotes Education by offering:

Classes for family members and those that are afflicted with mental illness
Visiting speakers on helpful topics.
A library of books and videos about mental illness.
Information on the state and national website.

Supports Research

Mental Illness is a disease and like other diseases it will yild to persistent scientific funding.  NAMI supports increased funding for research on brain disorders and is associated with NARAD (National Alliance for Research on Schizophrenia dn Depression.

NAMI has support groups to provide opportunities to:

Share experiences
Develop coping skills
Explore solutions to similar problems
Build mutual understanding and hope.

Our members strive to advocate for:

Effective professional treatment

Programs and legislation which assists persons with mental illness

Community Awareness and removal of stigma

Recommendations for services in the mental health system.
